09/30/2010 – Metamorphosis: Abstract works by Federico Uribe
Federico Uribe, Oriente – Poniente , 2009, chopsticks and plastic forks, 60 inches diameter x 17 inches, Courtesy of Now Contemporary Art Metamorphosis: Abstract works by Federico Uribe September 25, 2010-January 2, 2011 Presenting Sponsor: Peter and Pat Thompson Federico Uribe, born in Columbia, currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. He began his art education at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota and continued his studies in New York, Cuba, Mexico, Russia, England, and eventually settled in Miami. Originally a painter, in 1996 Uribe began collecting everyday objects, such as flip flops, plastic forks, books, chopsticks, and colored pencils, at local flea markets and street fairs. Uribe takes these ordinary objects and reworks them as abstract installations of pattern, color, and form. This transformation replaces the object’s original function and purpose with a new identity and significance. Metamorphosis features eight works from his Abstract-O series.
